Maximize Flexibility Using Residential Wood Sliding Panels

Solution: Wooden sliding and folding panels
Wooden sliding panels for residential design provide one of the most flexible solutions for this problem. There’s no better way to integrate walls that can “disappear” on demand. And create versatile access points and completely transform a living space to either multiply space or create room within a room. All can be accomplished with the minimalist aesthetic that residential clients are looking for.
Two options for wooden sliding partitions: SLID and LITE
SLID is one of Klein’s favored products for creating wooden sliding walls or doors. It was created to divide living spaces through single, wooden doors. It allows for optimal clearance and works well for entrances to just about any room in a residence. SLID wooden/metal doors have a compact track that can hold panels up to 10 feet high with several mounting options, including recessed or pocket applications. The openings created are clean and free of floor tracks. When installed, they have a very minimal gap between the door and the wall. From both an aesthetics and functional perspective, SLID provides everything a designer is looking for in a sliding door solution.
Another option that provides a solution to our design challenge is Klein’s LITE wooden/metal doors. Like SLID, LITE allows space to be divided through wooden panels that optimize clearance and provide many of the same benefits to the residence. However, LITE supports a lighter-weight door – 220 pounds as opposed to 300 pounds with SLID. The lighter weight makes LITE a very easy installation and the perfect solution when a heavier door is not required.

The video and case study below share the story of a comprehensive renovation for a family of five in Madrid, Spain. With three young children, the family required ultimate flexibility. They needed to separate and integrate rooms, depending on the situation.
The floorplan was challenging; we had to figure out how to connect the master bedroom to the nearest hallway, with a bathroom located in the middle. The bedroom for the two sons and the bedroom for the daughter needed to be joined for daytime activities. The also needed bo be divided for privacy at bedtime. And in the living room, we wanted to create as large a space as we could, using both foldings. And also, sliding panels that the two foyers could be enveloped into the living room when a bigger space was necessary.
