PMMT Forward Thinking Healthcare Architecture, a company specializing in hospital and healthcare architecture, has integrated the pillars of their architectural thinking into the design of their own office in Barcelona’s 22@ district.
This project reflects the firm’s values and allows visitors to better understand how they work, with an emphasis on creativity, user well-being and constant innovation.
KLEIN® sliding tracks, have been a key element of this redesign. PMMT has taken a creative and unconventional approach to their implementation, using them as more than simple spatial dividers.
In essence, the 5,500-square-foot floor where PMMT’s new office is made up of a number of extremely versatile spaces:
- A transversal open space, where different teams gather to share information and experience, without any hierarchical distinctions.
- Spaces for different types of meetings, adjacent to the open space, for tasks requiring greater concentration or privacy.
- Spaces for brainstorming.
- “Resources”: library, kitchen/training center…
Meeting rooms are defined by fixed and sliding architectural walls with wooden frames. Glass is everywhere. Its transparency fosters visual communication and allows natural light to flow through different rooms. KLEIN® sliding systems make it easy to access a variety of spaces from the main open space, thus saving square footage.
Located at one end of the office, the Brainstorming Room is an example of and sanctuary for creativity.
Since the PMMT team works collaboratively on projects and research, they need large areas where they can draw and hang plans and other types of content. They’ve come up with four large sliding whiteboards that stack up on one wall of the room, without taking up any extra space. Mounted on sliding KLEIN tracks, they are easy to use and offer smooth sliding.
These sliding panels, which weigh over 200 pounds each, are a key element in PMMT’s innovation process, allowing the team to express and structure their thoughts and developments for a wide range of projects. The stackable panels greatly increase the amount of operational space. Their dynamic nature allows all information to be visually available at all times. A creative way to adapt the use of sliding systems for their particular workstyle.
The Brainstorming Room is finished off with a large sliding panel that runs perpendicular to the previously mentioned ones, also mounted on a KLEIN® track: it acts as a large door to the room, and its surface can be used as a writing area and idea board.
